The National Association of State Agencies for Surplus Property, Inc. (NASASP) was formed in 1947 and is a private, 501(c)(6) organization. The State Agencies for Surplus Property (SASPs) are our members. SASPs were established by Federal law and are the General Service Administration’s “local agent” for the Federal Surplus Personal Property Donation Program. SASPs establish and maintain program eligibility at the local level as well as ensure compliance with federal property regulations. By acquiring equipment from federal civilian and military offices and bases across the country and even internationally, NASASP and our member SASPs serve your community through the reutilization of federal surplus. Included among NASASP’s achievements are:
- Passage of the Veteran’s Small Business Enhancement Act of 2018 which added veteran-owned small businesses to the list of organizations that are eligible to receive federal surplus property. Millions of veteran small business owners across the U.S. now have a means by which to acquire surplus equipment to support the growth of small businesses in your community.
- Passage of FOR VETS Act of 2013 which made Veterans Service Organizations – including local chapters of the American Legion, VFW and Disabled Veterans of America – eligible to receive federal surplus property.
- Assisting with the distribution of Federal surplus assets during Fiscal Years 2018-2021 worth more than $1.5 billion in initial costs.
- Managing the repatriation of U.S. federal government owned assets from across the globe through NASASP’s Overseas Program. Property is screened and shipped from areas – including Central and Southern Europe, England, the Pacific Region, Central America and the Caribbean – back to the U.S. where it can be reutilized in local communities.

Working with NASASP on our legislative and educational outreach projects that help us inform many U.S. Congressional members and staffs who assist in determining GSA, DOD, VA and SBA policies and issues.
